It was great fun to be invited to speak to students at Durham University about the progress I’ve made over the past few years in publishing my speculative fiction novels.
This interview gave me the luxury of reflecting for an hour on what I’ve achieved, and being able to share some practical advice.
We didn’t just talk about the creative process and having wordcount targets. I also decided to be open about the financial realities behind the art and my own medium term payback ambitions.
A big thank you to Mike Elliston, visiting fellow and writer in residence, for running such a thoughtful session; to the students for some terrific questions; and Geraldine Brennan for putting me forward for the slot.
You rock!
